Race report
Mads Pedersen is the first attacker, but his attempt is short-lived. Approximately 20 kilometres later, Lorenzo Milesi and Edward Planckaert launch an attack, before Pedersen bridges across to join them. This attack is short-lived as well.
On the Col de la Porte, the race remains in full swing, with — surprise, surprise — Pedersen as the most active rider. He is caught but attacks again on the descent, building a lead of over a minute.
Felix Gall and Aleksandr Vlasov track down Pedersen in the final kilometre of the Côte de Peille. The GC group reaches the summit 15 seconds later.
The gap widens on the descent, while Magnus Sheffield sets off in pursuit. He makes it across on the Col d’Èze. At the same time, yellow jersey Matteo Jorgenson attacks on the lower slopes.
Pedersen and Sheffield continue together after the intermediate sprint at the summit, while Jorgenson bridges the gap to the other two.
Sheffield leaves Pedersen behind early on the Col des Quatre Chemins, and Gall drops Jorgenson and Vlasov in the steep final kilometre. The American regains contact and the two reach the summit 20 seconds behind Sheffield.
Jorgenson descends faster than Gall, but his compatriot is already so far ahead that he cannot be caught. Stage victory for Sheffield, overall victory for Jorgenson.
Florian Lipowitz and Thymen Arensman flank Jorgenson on the final podium, while the German also clinches the young rider classification. Pedersen takes home the points jersey.
