Paris-Nice 2023 Route stage 4: Saint-Amand-Montrond - La Loge des Gardes

Paris-Nice 2023Woensdag 8 maart - Paris-Nice includes two mountain top finishes, the first of which happens on the fourth day of action. The 4th stage amounts to 164.7 kilometres and the last 6.7 kilometres climb at 7.1% to the line.

The riders travel on flat to rolling roads in southeasterly direction for the first 110 kilometres. The Côte du Vernet – 2.1 kilometres at 5.8% – presents the first uphill test. Following a very short downhill the route continues to go up for 4 kilometres at 3.5%.

Back in the valley the riders enter a false flat, which culminates in a section of 1.3 kilometres at 7%. This is the first part of the Côte de Chival Rigon. The second part serves solely low gradients, resulting in an entire climb of 5.7 kilometres long with an average gradient of 3.9%.

After hardly any descent the Col du Beaujolais begins, a climb of 8.9 kilometer long, but again with relatively low gradients – 3.1% on average. Time bonuses are available at the top. The last part of the climb is the steepest part.

The end of the downhill coincides with the climb to the line in ski resort La Loge des Gardes. The ascent is 6.7 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 7.1%. The first half is the most testing part.

Julian Alaphilippe, who is riding the Tirreno-Adriatico, was born in start venue Saint-Amand-Montrond.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 6, 4 and 2 seconds.
