Laurens Huys, Aaron Van Poucke, Loïc Vliegen, Tomasz Marczynski, Mathijs Paasschens, Lorenzo Rota and Sergei Chernetski attack from the gun to open up a lead of more than 10 minutes.
Harm Vanhoucke, Mark Donovan and Mark Padun attack in the peloton with 60 kilometres remaining.
The seven leaders tackle the Redoute 1 minute ahead of the three chasers. The peloton is 1 minute further behind.
Huys and Rota are the first riders to reach the summit before Marczynski and Vliegen rejoin them later.
Geoghegan Hart pulls hard on the Côte des Forges and Yates takes over with Vingegaard, Pogacar, Vansevenant, Geoghegan Hart, Quinten Hermans, Hiquita and Carapaz in his wheel. They gobble up the attackers before Carapaz goes solo.
While the Ecuadorian opens up a gap of 30 seconds the favourites regroup in the background.
Carapaz is caught on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons before Woods speeds up in the last metres of the steep climb with Pogacar, Gaudu, Alaphilippe and Valverde in his wheel. The five enter the descent 20 seconds ahead of the chasers.
Valverde opens the sprint early before Alaphilippe comes storming past. Pogacar overhauls the World Champion with a powerful jump to the line to win the first Monument in his career.
