Race report
Filippo Rastelli and Luca Tagliani attack from the gun. The two carve out a 5 minutes lead before the peloton takes control.
The bunch goes haywire before the midway marker because of strong winds and possible echelons, resulting in a bunched peloton with 92 kilometres. Richard Carapaz says ‘thank you’ and scores a time bonus of 3 seconds in the second intermediate sprint.
Dries De Bondt goes solo. The former Belgian Champion opens a 1.30 minutes gap before he is caught in the last 5 kilometres.
In the ensuing sprint Fernando Gaviria looks strong, but Alberto Dainese overhauls him with a powerful surge to the line.
Juan Pedro López stays in pink, while Richard Carapaz moves up to second place due to the time bonus of 3 seconds.
