Race report
Francisco Muñoz attacks after 100 metres. Stefan de Bod, Lilian Calmejane, and Filippo Ganna track down the Spaniard before the quartet opens up a 1.30 minutes advantage.

The lead never exceeds that gap, and Ganna ceases his efforts. The gap then extends to over 5 minutes.

Calmejane is the first attacker over the Colle del Melogno, while Fabio Jakobsen can’t keep up with the pace in the peloton. The Dutch sprinter reaches the summit 1.30 minutes behind the main group, but he manages to catch up after a long chase. Moments later, with 73 kilometres remaining, Calmejane stops his efforts and waits for the peloton.

Biniam Girmay is one of the riders who goes down in a crash before he hits the deck again in the chase. The Eritrean abandons the Giro d’Italia.

The two remaining leaders reach the coast 2.40 minutes ahead of the peloton. Their story ends inside the last 5 kilometres.

Ganna attacks on the Capo Mele. He reaches the summit with a 6 seconds lead and continues to push, but the peloton doesn’t falter. The Italian is caught within the last 500 metres, and then Simone Consonni leads out Jonathan Milan, who powers to a commanding victory. Kaden Groves finishes second, with Phil Bauhaus in third.

Tadej Pogacar keeps a low profile this time to maintain the GC lead.
