Race report
Ben Healy initiates the breakaway at kilometre 5 and Simone Velasco goes with him. A group with Bauke Mollema and Brandon McNulty rejoins the duo after a 15 kilometres chase. Einer Rubio and Martin Marcellusi are the last riders to bridge across in the Valico di Valcava climb, while Healy is the first rider to reach the summit.

The lead group – Ballerini, Dainese, Pasqualon, Albanese, Velasco, Gavazzi, Frigo, Bonifazio, Bidard, Huys, Berwick, Rojas, Mollema, McNulty, Marcellusi, Rubio, Healy – carves out a 7 minutes gap.

Dainese and Marcellusi can’t follow the pace in the Selvino climb. Once again, Healy pockets maximum points at the summit, but Rubio outsprints him for the Miragolo San Salvatore KOM.

Bonifazio jumps off the front in the run-up to the climb to Roncola Alta. Frigo overhauls his compatriot in the climb before McNulty tracks him down. Healy regains contact also before he continues on his own in the last kilometres of the climb.

Healy reaches the summit 13 seconds ahead of McNulty, while Frigo is 30 seconds in arrears.

McNulty rejoins Healy on descent, while Frigo tracks down the duo inside the last 10 kilometres.

Healy attacks in the last few hundred metres of the Colle Aperto. McNulty follows the move before Frigo makes it back in the home straight. He uses his speed to open a gap, which Healy closes. McNulty powers past the two to take the win.

Armirail loses contact in the GC group in the Colle Aperto, but he stays in pink.
