Race report
Umberto Marengo and Filippo Tagliani jump clear from the gun to carve out a maximum lead of more than 5 minutes, but they are caught when the peloton speeds up ahead of the first intermediate sprint.
It’s gruppo compatto until Davide Gabburo and Simon Pellaud join forces with 70 kilometres remaining. Their lead never extends to more than 1.30 minutes.
Alexis Gougeard jumps across to the two leaders in the last 24 kilometres. Despite the fresh legs the peloton is bunched again with 4 kilometres to go, shortly after a hard Mikel Landa crash, who was taken down by Joe Dombrowski.
Caleb Ewan powers to a commanding sprint victory, besting Giacomo Nizzolo and Elia Viviani. Alesssandro De Marchi stays in the GC lead, while Louis Vervaeke moves up to second place because Joe Dombrowski drops back.
