Race report
Thomas De Gendt initiates the breakaway with four other riders: Etienne van Empel, Ben Gastauer, Mattia Bais and Alessandro Tonelli. The five open up a gap of 5 minutes.
Dark horse Aleksandr Vlasov abandons the race with 70 kilometres remaining. The Russian suffers stomach problems.
The leaders are caught inside the last 9 kilometres.
Ackermann jumps clear in the last kilometre. Ulissi and Honoré go with him, while Sagan regains contact just before entering the home straight. But he has not enough juice left and Ulissi powers to victory.
Ganna finishes safely in the peloton to stay in the overall race lead.
