Race report
Following a lot of movement in the early stages of the race the peloton is bunched again at kilometre 32. A little later leader Primoz Roglic, Mikel Landa, Ilnur Zakarin and Rafal Majka are involved in a crash. The ensuing quiet phase leads to the next attack at kilometre 49. Rojas, Peters, Serry, Plaza, Bagioli, Wyss and Conti open up a gap, while Oomen, Carboni, Conci, Madouas, Antunes, Amador and Masnada bridge across. Wyss stops his efforts before the thirteen open up a comfortable gap.
Masnada and Conti, who is the the virtual GC leader, strike on the Copa Casarinelle climb. Rojas, Plaza and Carboni try to track them down, but without success. The two Italians hold them at 30 seconds before it comes down to an agreed upon finish: Masnada stage win, Conti maglia rosa.
The peloton, with Roglic and all GC riders, finishes 7.19 behind Masnada.
