Giro 2019 Favourites stage 18: Rare sprint opportunity

Straight from the gun the route goes uphill. The start in Valdaoro lies at an elevation of 1,096 metres and the riders climb to 1,530 metres before a sheer endless downhill leads to a minor climb. The riders ascend to Pieve d’Alpago before the route continues to drop down. The last 60 kilometres are flat, while the home straight in in Santa di Maria di Sala lies an elevation of 13 metres.

Pascal Ackermann won two sprints in this Giro. He powered to victory in the 2nd and rain-soaked 5th stage, while Arnaud Démare is the only still present sprinter with a win under his belt. The Frenchman won the crash-marked sprint in stage 10. in the race who th.

Caleb Ewan and Fernando Gaviria also were victorious, but they left the Giro for different reasons.
