Race report
The first three laps are neutralized before the race begins. So all results of this Giro are final after the third passage on the line, except today’s stage win. So Froome wins the overall.
Lutsenko and Schmidt go on the attack. The Austrian loses contact and Juul-Jensen and Zhupa take his place before 15 more riders rejoin.
Juul-Jensen and Kuznetsov take off with 40 kms to go, while the others are gobbled up by the peloton with 30 kms to go. Just before the last lap the peloton reels in the remaining two leaders.
Ryan Mullen goes clear with Florian Sénéchal on his wheel. Tony Martin and Danny van Poppel bridge across, while Mattia Cattaneo hooks on, too. Yet, with 4 kms to go the attack is neutralised.
In the ensuing sprint Sam Bennett powers to his third victory this Giro. He overhauls Elia Viviani, who comes in second.
