La Spezia is located between Genoa and Pisa on the Gulf of La Spezia. After leaving Chiavari the bunch rides along the coast and pass through yesterday’s arrival town Sestri Levante. Then they turn left for and inland spin and via Colle di Velva (536 metres) and Passo del Bracco (589 metres) they cruise through the hilly hinterland of Liguria. Once back at the coast the climbing is not done, since Passo del Termine (548 metres) is yet another hurdle after 100 kilometres in the saddle.
The undulating road continues to La Spezia, where a 17.9 kilometres circuit awaits the riders. With 10 kilometres left a nasty climb at Biassa could mean the end of even the thoughest sprinters.
