Chances are Alberto Contador will want show who’s boss. The final climb is perfect for an attack in the final kilometres as it is very irregular nearing the top. So that’s the perfect terrain for El Pistolero to dance away from his rivals.
In last year’s Vuelta Fabio Aru was able to hold on for dear life when Contador attacked, but most of the time he did break eventually. Rigoberto Uran is not very fond of irregular climbs, so probably his goal will be to limit his losses.
It will be interesting to watch Richie Porte. The 30-year old Tasmanian can forget about the overall and is free to attack whenever he wants. His only remaining goal is stage wins. Is he is able to change his focus from GC-win to stage-win, the Giro might not be entirely lost after all.
Other riders to watch are Mikel Landa, Ryder Hesjedal, Carlos Betancur, Ilnur Zakarin and Steven Kruijswijk. The Dutchman is a tireless attacker this Giro and he deserves a win.
Starting at 12:30 (CET), the stage is set to finish around 17:10.
