Giro 2014: Stage 12 - ITT with nasty hills

Giro 2014 BaroloNo, it's not a climb time trial like stage 19, but almost 18 kilometres of ascending surely looks like it. The hardship is divided over 3 hills in this 41.9 kilometres time trial. (Slideshow route/profile)

Right from the start in Barbaresco, at 272 meters, the road goes up until the first hill is summitted at 12.6 kilometres. This is the highest spot in the route in Boscasso (foto), located at an altitude of 650 meters. The climb goes up by an average gradient of 3%.

Next is a 13.6 kilometre descent to the lowest point of the stage, in the ‘truffle’ town of Alba. The following 8 kilometres are flat and then the second climb of the day lays waiting. This one is 3.4 kilometres in length and the average grade is 4.7%. Upon cresting there are exactly 4 kilometres left.

The final part is made up of a 2.4 kilometer high speed descent followed by a 1.6 kilometre closing climb to the finish line. The last stretch comes with a nasty 4.5% gain
