Eneco Tour 2015 Route stage 6: Heerlen - Houffalize
Saturday, August 15, 2015 - In 208.6 kilometres riders head from Heerlen to Houffalize. The 6th is the longest stage in the Eneco Tour and with eighteen hills and the Ardennes as a backdrop, today's route is a stage race version of Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
After a local round in Heerlen, in the south of the Netherlands, the pack heads for the Ardennes in Belgium. The stage follows the same recipe as the penultimate stage of last year. Difference is back then the finish was atop La Redoute. Tim Wellens won the stage, taking an advance on the overall victory.
The riders are to crest a total of eighteen hills with the Saint-Roch guest of honour. It is one of the opening climbs in Liege-Bastogne-Liege, but this time the steep hill is more prominent. The 1 kilometre climb at 11.2% is on the menu three times.
The last climb up Saint-Roch is with 27 km’s left, then comes Côte Achouffe – 800 meters at 8% – with 15 kilometres to go, while the last hill of the day is called Le Vieux Chemin. That one comes 3.5 kilometres after the Achouffe. Nothing to be afraid of, only 400 metres at 5%.
The finale is marked by curves and the last kilometres goes up by a 1.6% grade.
