Dwars door Vlaanderen 2022: Favourites

One could argue that Dwars door Vlaanderen is a final test before Sunday’s showdown. But not all big guns show up. Asgreen and Van Aert are saving fuel, while the other two pretenders for Flanders’ Finest, Van der Poel and Pogacar, do take the start in Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Since 2017, the race takes place four days before the Tour of Flanders. The Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg have been taken out of the last 35 kilometres since then, but Dwars door Vlaanderen is a hard race anyhow.

Last year, Dylan van Baarle won Dwars door Vlaanderen with a solo of 50 kilometres. The Dutchman succeeded his compatriot Mathieu van der Poel, who won the race in 2019 in a five-up sprint. The 2020 edition was cancelled.
