Thursday, August 28th – Stage 6 leads in 167.1 kilometres to Cumbres Verdes, making it the first mountain stage of La Vuelta 2014. The riders are to crest two categorised climbs before arriving at the bottom of the 12.1 kilometres closing clim. The final 4 kilometres are undeniably Purito terrain and yes, he attacks, but it's Alejandro Valverde who takes over for a mighty win. Froome comes in second, Contador third. Valverde is the new man in red.

Thursday, August 28 – In stage 6 the first categorized mountains of the 2014 Vuelta are more than happy to welcome the riders. The ride is 167.1 kilometres from Benalmádena to La Zubia and is crowned with a closing climb to Cumbres Verdes – 1st category, top finish.

Stage 6 and finally it's up to the climbers. The uphill finish is definitely Joaquim Rodríguez territory, with the last 4 kilometres going by a 10% grade. But not only Purito, all other GC riders will be dying to power up that Cumbres Verdes mountain.
