Thursday, September 11 - Stage 18 takes the riders mostly along the Spanish westcoast tot arrive after 157 kilometres of racing in Monte Castrove. The last 30 kilometres delivers twice the same 2nd category climb. Half way the last climb Fabio Aru attacks en he is joined by Chris Froome. The two work together to hold off the upcoming Spaniards Contador, Valverde and Rodríguez. The British/Italian collaboration pays off and Aru takes the stage, whilst Froome is now second in the overall. Contador sticks to his red jersey.

Thursday, September 11 – Stage 18 in the 2014 Vuelta traverses the area the tour started in last year’s edition. The ride heads in 157 kilometers from A Estrada to finish 700 metres after cresting Monte Castrove.
