Giro 2019: Zakarin wins first mountain stage, Polanc holds on to pink

In terms of GC, the Giro d'Italia kicks finally into gear in stage 13 with a dramatic race. Ilnur Zakarin climbs to victory ahead of Mikel Nieve and Mikel Landa. Jan Polanc retains the maglia rosa.

Tour de France 2016 Stage 17: Zakarin solos to impressive victory, Froome cements lead

In stage 17 of the Tour de France the riders face four climbs, while the toughest are at the end of the race with one 1st category and one horse category climb in the last 35 kilometres. Ilnur Zakarin goes solo on the last climb to power to victory. Jarlinson Pantano finishes in second, KOM-leader Majka in third. Chris Froome puts time into his rivals, thus cementing his overall lead.

Paris – Nice 2016: Ilnur Zakarin takes stage 6, Geraint Thomas new leader

At 177 kilometres, stage 6 in Paris-Nice leads over six mountains to the foot of the closing climb. Leader Matthews is dropped at the penultimate climb and in the 15.3 kilometres toil at 5.7% to La Madone d'Utelle Zakarin proves to be strongest. Geraint Thomas is on his wheel and the Welshman is the new overall leader, 15 seconds ahead of Alberto Contador.

Giro 2015 Stage 11: Zakarin solos to victory

In 153 rainy kilometres stage 11 leads from van Forlì to the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola. Ilnur Zakarin, winner of the Tour de Romandie, is the best of the breakaway and he solos to victory. Betancur wins the sprint of the chasers. Contador retains the pink jersey.

Tour de Romandie 2015: Martin wins ITT, Zakarin takes GC

It all boils down to the ITT in Lausanne. Tony Martin is strongest in his favourite discipline, with Simon Spilak second and Ilnur Zakarin third. This means Zakarin wins the overall with Spilak runner-up. Chris Froome completes the podium after a disappointing performance in the time trial. That said, he outperforms both his Tour de France rivals Quintana and Nibali.
