Race report
It is raining in France. Despite the high pace Gregor Mühlberger, Alessandro De Marchi and Julian Alaphilippe jump clear at kilometre 12 and they carve out a gap of more than 12 minutes. Alaphilippe is the first rider over the Col de la Chambotte, Côte de Lachat, Col du Frêne, Côte de Châteauneuf, Côte d’Aiton, Côte de Saint-Georges-d’Hurtières and Côte du Bocher, catapulting himself into the KOM lead.

De Marchi cracks just before the top of the last climb, Col de Beaune, and Alaphilippe and Mühlberger fly down the mountain together.

The Frenchman outpowers the German in a millimetre sprint. De Marchi crosses the line at 22 seconds, while Poels wins the peloton sprint some 6 minutes later. Yates retains his 4 seconds lead over Teuns with Van Garderen another 2 seconds behind.
