The climbing starts with the Col de Manse, familiar to riders from yesterday and crested 60.5 kilometres into the stage. Riders then head for the calmer section, disturbed only by the relatively easy climb up Côte du Motty. The real climbing of the day starts 126 kilometres in with 3 tough climbs over 20 kilometres.
A 13 kilometre descent then takes the riders to the foot of Côte de Laffrey – a 6.3 kilometre climb at 6.2%. The first half is by far the toughest, with an average gradient of 12% and sections up to 18%.
Once crested, it’s a 16 kilometre race on rolling terrain towards La Mure.
