Race report
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado initiates the break of the day on the Maasberg. Solbjørk Minke Anderson, Gladys Verhulst-Wild, Marine Allione, Maud Rijnbeek, Nadia Quagliotto, Manon de Boer, Vera Tieleman, and Allison Mrugal join her. The nine open up a gap of over 2 minutes on the peloton, but are reeled on the local circuit, prior to the first crossing of the finish line.
On the first ascent of the Bemelerberg, Anna van der Breggen is dropped from the peloton. The former winner manages to claw her way back, but abandons the race not long after.
A huge lead group then forms, featuring standout names such as Lorena Wiebes, Puck Pieterse, Yara Kastelijn, Femke de Vries, Blanka Vas, Ashleigh Moolman, Mischa Bredewold, Neve Bradbury, Anna Henderson, Alison Jackson, Juliette Labous, and Ellen van Dijk. They open up a 2-minute lead.
On the penultimate ascent of the Cauberg, Pieterse thins the lead group down to six riders, but most of the attackers regroup after the summit. The peloton crosses the line 1.40 minutes behind the front group.
Pieterse, Labous, Persico, Bredewold and Van Dijk drop the other attackers on the Geulhemmerberg. The first two push on together, while Persico regains contact after the summit. Van Dijk and Bredewold makes it back just before the Bemelerberg.
Van Dijk attacks with 6 kilometres remaining. No one reacts, so Bredewold gives chase. The other three still don’t move.
The two reach the foot of the Cauberg with a 9-second lead over the chasers. Bredewold drops Van Dijk, who is joined by Pieterse and Labous.
Bredewold pushes on solo to take the win, while Van Dijk outsprints Pieterse to complete an all-Dutch podium.
