Race report
A group of seven attacks from the start. Mathias Vacek, Leon Heinschke, Mattéo Vercher, Ward Vanhoof, Tobias Ludvigsson, Alessandro Fedeli and Martin Urianstad carve out a 5 minutes lead. They are caught before the midway marker.
An elite lead group establishes itself with 90 kilometres to go. Pogacar, Pidcock, Lutsenko, Sheffield, Van Tricht, Healy, Zingle, Vermeersch, Van den Berg, Kron and Geniets are the remaining leaders after the first time up the Cauberg. The eleven open up a 45 second gap before the peloton brings it down to 20 seconds.
Pogacar speeds up in the Eyserbosweg climb with Pidcock in his wheel. Healy regains contact after the summit, while Lutsenko and Kron track the trio down just before the Fromberg. The duo loses contact again as soon as the road goes up.
Another Pogacar acceleration on the Keutenberg and the Slovene is alone in the lead. He crosses the line for the last lap 31 seconds ahead of his two former companions.
The Irishman drops the Briton on the Geulhemmerberg. Healy gives it all and he reduces the gap to 20 seconds before it goes out again.
Pogacar adds another major Classic to his tally, while Healy finishes in second. Pidcock is struggling in the last kilometres, but he finishes in third, although on the same time as Kron and Lutsenko.
