Race report
Quinty Ton and Kathrin Hammes are the first attackers. A group of 17 riders rejoin them to open up a gap of 1.20 minutes.
First Vollering and then Van der Breggen accelerate to bring the gap down in the third lap before 30 riders regain contact with the head of the race.
In the fifth lap Brand tries to jump clear several times. When Van Vleuten attacks on the Cauberg Van den Broek-Blaak and Van der Breggen are dropped. All other pre-race favorites are present in the group of 24 riders.
Rooijakkers and Brown attack on the Bemelerberg. They cross the line for the last lap with a 17 seconds lead.
Brown goes alone before she is caught early on the last climb up the Cauberg. Van Vleuten jumps, but Niewiadoma counters the attack. Longo Borghini tracks her down and opens up a gap on the false flat at the top. Yet, the title defender regains contact.
As there is no cooperation the chasers bring the two back inside the last 500 metres. Vos opens the sprint and wins the race, although she almost celebrates too early. Vollering comes home second, Van Vleuten finishes in third.
